Important Dates for PCSB-Authorized Charter Schools
July 1: New fiscal year; charter schools begin receiving monthly revenue distributions.
August: West Virginia General Summative Assessment, from previous academic year, are publicly released.
September: West Virginia Balanced Scorecard indicators, from previous academic year, are publicly released.
September: Deadline to submit 1) Unaudited financial statements and 2) Financial data files (from the previous fiscal year) to West Virginia Department of Education [W.V. Code §18-5G-3(c)(10)].
October 1: Annual enrollment count day.
December: Charter schools eligible for increased enrollment funding distributions.
March: Deadline to submit independent audit of the school’s finances (for the previous fiscal year) to PCSB and state superintendent of schools [W.V. Code §18-5G-3(c)(10)].
Spring: Charter schools administer West Virginia General Summative Assessment [W.V. Code §18-5G-3(c)(6)].
Spring: Annual site visit by PCSB staff.
April 15: Start-up charter schools (opening in the forthcoming Fall) submit preliminary enrollment figures to West Virginia Department of Education.
May 1: Deadline for charter schools to elect to have annual audit performed by a certified public accountant approved by the Chief Inspector, rather than using the Chief Inspector [W.V. Code §18-5G-3(c)(10); §6-9-7].
May: Charter school governing boards receive annual report instructions from PCSB; annual report due to PCSB in August.
Important Dates for Charter Renewals
No later than June 30 of a charter school’s fourth year of operation under each five-year term of a charter contract, the PCSB will issue a performance report on the school [W.V. Code §18-5G-10)].
No later than June 30 of the school year before a charter school’s final year of operation under terms of a charter contract, PCSB will issue contract renewal application guidance to the school [W.V. Code §18-5G-10)].
No later than September 30 of a charter school's final authorized year of operation under a term of a charter contract, the governing board of the public charter school seeking renewal must submit a renewal application to PCSB pursuant to PCSB’s renewal application guidance [W.V. Code §18-5G-10)].
